The project consists of a dam constructed across the river Korayar at Walayar in Pudussery Panchayat in Palakkad District (Kerala). At the downstream of the dam the river joins with Malampuzha river at Kadukkamkunnu and there upon it is called Kalpathy Puzha, which is a tributary of Bharathapuzha.
The dam in the river portion is of masonry gravity type wrapped by earthen dams on either sides with a total length of 1478.00 m and the reservoir has a capacity of 18.40 MCM at + 203 Mean Sea Level (MSL). There is a road over the dam of width 3.60 m.
The length of masonry dam is 150 m and that of the earthen dam is 1328 m. The proposed ayacut of the project is 3752 ha (CCA). The length of main canal is 12.36 km. The catchment area of the project is 106.35 Sq.km. The work of the project was completed in the year 1964.
