Project Description

The Chimoni irrigation project is constructed across river chimony, a tributary of river Karuvannur at Echippara in Trichur district of Kerala. The CCA of the project is 13,000 hectare ( 11,000 hectare of Kole land which is below sea level and 2000 hectare of other land) and GCA is 35,700 hectare. The project stabilizes irrigation in an area of 14,500 hectare and provides irrigation to an additional area of 10,500 hectare. Paddy is the main cultivation in the land. The main components of the project are as under:

  1. Masonry cum earthen dam 1211.5 meter long across river Chimoni.
  2. Four radial type spillway shutters of 10 x 4.25 meter.
  3. There is no independent canal system under this project. The already existing canals and natural drains carry irrigation water to the existing ayacut.
